Call for dance and theatre artists

open-call-(1).jpg

For the past 12 years we have been presenting exceptional emerging works by theatre and dance artists!

The Saturday Bazaar is a showcase of excerpts of emerging performing and dance projects by independent artists from the Czech Republic and Central and Eastern Europe. Since 2023 we’ve offered these residencies and showings as a separate project called: Live Performance Bazaar Residencies.

We are pleased to announce this residency call for artists,  who will also present an excerpt of their emerging work at our Saturday Bazaar event (21 March 2026) , at the Bazaar Festival (12-22 March, 2026).

Who are we looking for?

Independent and innovative artists/groups from the Czech Republic and Central and Eastern Europe who are currently working on a new devised theatre or dance project. The theme of our upcoming edition is Communities - Human and Non-human (what cooperating in human communities opens up for us, where it blinds us, communities beyond purely human experience, from microorganisms in and around us to the entire landscape we share with crops, plants, and animals…). At the same time, we are happy to consider projects that are not directly related to the theme but respond to current issues in our landscape or society. The call is intended for smaller ensembles (max. 4 people). A condition for receiving support is participation through the entire residency and presentation at the Saturday Bazaar, i.e., from March 11 to 22, 2026. This condition is for all members of (potential) groups.

We offer (from March 11 to 22, 2026 + travel days):

  1. Free participation in a one-day feedback workshop on March 11, 2026. Participation in the workshop is an integral part of the residency and the performance within the Saturday Bazaar.

  2. Short 10-day residencies (accommodation, rehearsal space) in residency spaces in Prague, which will take place 11-20 March 2026.

  3. 2 hours of technical rehearsal with technical support (20 March 2026), one day prior to the Saturday Bazaar showing .

  4. A public presentation of a 15-minute extract of the emerging work at the Saturday Bazaar event, 21 March 2026 (with 45 minutes of setup/preparation, as 4 projects share the same space for the event).

  5. Moderated discussion with the public immediately following the presentation as useful and constructive feedback on the project, and which may influence the further creation process

  6. Moderated discussion with fellow residents the day after the presentations as deeper feedback on the project (on 22 March 2026).

  7. We guarantee a minimum of 4 hours/day in a rehearsal space. Outside of the guaranteed 4 hours, the space may be shared with another group/artist.

  8. Travel costs: maximum amount of 2.500,- CZK / person, determined by distance.

  9. Honorarium: 400,- CZK / person / day + 10.000,- CZK / ensemble for the presentation of the demonstration.

  10. The opportunity to see other emerging and finished projects, to meet innovative artists and representatives from the independent art communities of Central and Eastern Europe.
