Bazaar Festival responds to the long-term emergence of a large, dynamic community of curious audiences seeking out contemporary, pioneering forms of performing arts, as well as an open dialogue about the future of our society. At the same time, it reflects the current political situation in the respective countries, which—each in its own way—places increasing pressure on local artists.
Prague and the Czech Republic have traditionally played an important role in upholding freedom of expression, not only for Czech artists, and Bazaar Festival continues to build on this legacy. By expanding its dramaturgy to include artists from the Middle East, Bazaar also helps address Central European concerns about this region, which has more immediate experience with harsh realities such as poverty, migration, dictatorship, and war.
